Christmas in July

Celebrate the Season for Spiritual Uplift

Pole Reversal

While gaining popularity now and in the last 20 years, the tradition of Christmas in July has roots as far back as the mid-1930s. Temperate zone in the southern USA, namely the steamy coastal and bayou Intracoastal waterway laden Carolinas, when the counselors at Keystone Summer Camp for Girls attempted to buoy the listless, inactive, and lethargic campers and staff.

The break in the sweltering monotony lifted the spirits of the homesick campers and renewed energy levels by including holiday-themed games, decorating contests, and pageants. Crafting gifts, singing carols, and using the abundance of cotton crops, this tradition would soon grow to include Christmas trees, laundry bag stockings, and visits from St. Nick himself. Helpful elves could be found in the crafting areas, and many campers brought home holiday gifts for their families.

 A New Twist

We continue this ever-evolving tradition of celebrating the mid-year Christmas respite throughout the entire month of July and include holiday movies, clothing, feasts, and shopping for "Christmas Eve and Christmas day" gift-giving. Never meant to be a huge financial strain, this mid-year twist is still more for fun and festivity to bring a cooling-down appeal during the year's hottest month.
